ANNE’S TRANSFORMATION #5: KEEP ON KEEPING ON

When I began my weight loss journey in January, I had become complacent in my life. I no longer had energy for the things I had always loved to do. I had been working on hiking all the 48 footers in NH. Hiking is one of my favorite things to do. I only had two left. I lacked the desire to even complete them. That troubled me. I also had gained some unwanted weight and was hoping to lose 30 pounds and get off my high blood pressure medication. I knew I was too young and vibrant to feel this way.

NutriCoach at Fortitude Health and Training has been invaluable to me. It opened my eyes to new ways of thinking about eating. I have been learning how important it is to exercise AND to eat well. Combining the two together is the only way to make AND keep the changes …. truly creating a healthy lifestyle. Working with a personal trainer along with participating in Fortitude’s amazing classes has increased my strength and endurance. I feel the best I have felt in years.

My changes have been life altering. I have lost all the weight I was hoping to lose. I no longer have to take my blood pressure medications and I finally completed my last 4000 footer 3 weeks ago! I wake up in the morning with a new energy and awareness. My personal relationships have improved in a way I didn’t expect. People notice the difference. I have been told I look brighter and happier. I feel it.

It hasn’t always been easy. I had hit some roadblocks. I suffered a concussion two months ago and it sidelined me for a bit. I was unable to work out and got off track with my eating. It was making me feel anxious. I was so afraid I would slide backwards. With the help of my Fortitude Trainer and Nutricoach, I realized I had the will and the strength to do it. They were so patient and supportive. Fortitude has changed my life and I will be forever grateful!

Life is filled with highs and lows, valleys and peaks that will test your resilience and push you to overcome your challenges. The lessons you learn on your way to the top will only make you better and stronger.

Anne’s Transformation #4: Energized and Empowered

I have lost 20 lbs now! It is such an amazing feeling to see and feel the changes in my body. I keep buying new clothes! I feel more energized throughout the day. When I began the Nutricoach sessions with Fortitude, I had very little energy at the end of the day. Once I began paying closer attention to the food choices I was making and staying consistent with my exercise routine, everything changed. I don’t feel as exhausted at the end of the day.

On Sundays, I plan my meals for the week. It takes a little longer to plan and prepare but it is so worth it. I love knowing when I come home after work I have a plan for a healthy dinner with my family. Making the decision to bring my lunch to work and not eat takeout has made a huge difference as well. I was getting take out several days a week with my co workers. My choices weren’t always healthy. Packing my lunch the night before has been a great time saving step. I know that when I leave for work I have a better choice for lunch. The Nutricoach sessions have been very helpful. I have learned ways to shop healthier and plan my week better! Fortitude has also helped identify easy healthy ideas for meals. I have tried many new recipes. It has been fun.

I continue to train with my trainer each week and attend the classes at the Fort. I look forward to that each week. It has become part of my everyday life. I have made a lot of new friends in this process, too. I truly see that I need a combination of healthy eating and regular exercise to feel healthy. It’s empowering!

ANNE’S TRANSFORMATION #3 – FORTITUDE IS A GAME CHANGER

I am just over 2 months into my program and feeling really good. I have lost 14.5 pounds and feeling stronger. I’ve noticed that my clothes are loose and I need to start thinking about buying some new ones. I am excited about that.

I guess you could say my life is moving in a positive direction. My husband, daughter, and co-workers have noticed a big difference in not only my appearance, but also my attitude. I never realized how important it is to take care of yourself.

Danielle has been so supportive. I continue to meet with her once a week and we talk about many things. It could be new recipes, future goals, ways to stay motivated, workout goals, and many more things. Nutrition and exercise is such a science that most people do not understand. People also want things to come easy and are looking for a quick fix. I am learning that is not the way to go.

Danielle quizzes me on foods and I am always so surprised to learn that foods I thought were healthy are not! Portion control and changing up the foods I am eating is so important too. I am sent me recipes that are easy to make, colorful, healthy and fun to try. I stopped getting take out with my co-workers everyday. I bring my own lunch each day and that has made a huge difference. My meetings include talk about healthy lunch alternatives for me to bring so I don’t get bored. I feel more energized at the end of the day now and I know it is because I am fueling my body with healthy food.

I continue to use MyFitnessPal to track all of my foods. By logging every day it keeps me accountable. It’s a great motivator. It only takes a few minutes each day.

In addition to group classes, I have also started to personal train with Jenn at Fortitude. She makes working out so fun and it always challenges me. The variety of workouts is awesome. She knows how to push me to work my hardest without being overbearing. I can do so much more now. I can’t believe how many more pushups I can do now than when I first began.

Going to Fortitude has been a game changer for me. I can’t even explain the camaraderie that takes place there. Everyone is helpful and supportive. People at the gym are noticing the changes in me. They come up to me and tell me how great I look and ask me how I do it. It feels good to be able to tell people about my journey.

The combination of healthy eating and exercising is working for me. I continue my quest to become healthier and stronger. I can’t thank Danielle and Jenn and everyone at Fortitude for being there for me. Keep on keeping on!!!

ANNE TRANSFORMATION #2 – SMALL CHANGES LEAD TO BIG CHANGES

I am a couple weeks into my new program.  I am a little tired but I am getting used to my new way of eating and living. I have lost 4 lbs so far. It is exciting to see the scale move but I wish it would move faster. I know I need to be realistic though. They say small changes will lead to big changes.

My body is adjusting and I feel so much better already.  I needed to change my eating habits and with the help of Danielle she is getting me to try different foods and healthy alternatives. I am checking labels and I am  very surprised to learn the foods that I thought were healthy are not so healthy.  It is an eye opening experience. Danielle checks my log during the week and gives me feedback and ideas.  I will continue to track my food. It is very empowering.

I am also starting to feel the changes in my body.  I have been doing more of the group classes. They are harder than what I am used to but I go at my own pace with their guidance.  The trainers are so encouraging. I feel like I am getting stronger.

My daughter and my husband are noticing changes in me. I want to get up and go to the gym. I am excited to try new things. People at work say I look happier.  It feels good to hear that.

I need to keep myself in check.  The staff at Fortitude helps me do that. I am learning a new way to live. It’s not easy but I know it will be worth it. I am worth it.

Fort Transformations: Anne begins her journey

I woke up today and decided I just don’t feel good. I’ve come to the conclusion that I am overweight, and in a rut of depression. My daughter is going away to college and my elderly mother isn’t well. My counselor, who had helped through a very tough year, has accepted a new position and is moving away, so I no longer have her as a guide through my frustrations and worries. I have to find another resource to bring me some relief. Overall, I’m just not happy with who I am and what I have become at this point in my life. I feel like I’ve given up on myself both physically and mentally, and I need to find the means to bring my body back to life. So that is when I made the call to Fortitude Health and Training. They set me up with my Nutricoach partner, Danielle!!  So my journey begins today:

  1. I would like to lose 30 pounds 
  2. I’ve got to get off my blood pressure medication 
  3. My dream is to conquer all of the 4,000 footers in NH 

I’m nervous, but I think I can do this.
